Do you ever get the feeling that Tea Party Republicans see the phrase “Ignorance Is Bliss” as a Mission Statement?

A Vietnam Veteran's Letter To Sarah Palin - Author Unknown

by Deb Romilly on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 4:11pm

*Thank you to my friend Roy Greene for sharing this post by Deb.  It is so sad but so touching and so true!  Those who call themselves Patriots, Christians and Moms should be outraged by this woman, not worshipping her! -Mem

SHAME on the media for STILL giving this woman any kind of platform or attention and SHAME on the media for NOT being truthful about SP!  You want to give her attention? Tell the truth about who she REALLY is! Real Journalism no longer exist!-Mem

The Letter:

For some time now, you have been an amusing, albeit mostly incoherent annoyance. But today you crossed a line. With that high cut helmet, carefully designed to allow your professionally coiffed hair to flow freely, you have tried to hijack a moment that you can't even begin to understand. You decided that an event that has for years been intended to call attention to our POW/MIAs would make a really cool photo-op, as well as a great kick-off for your next get-rich-quick scheme.

Well, Sarah, you picked my war this time. I had several buddies, two of whom died within a couple of meters of me, and you zoomed right past their names on The Wall today; winking and smiling all the way. You weren't invited, you weren't welcome, but when has that ever stopped you?

Did you make a few extra bucks for your PAC? If so, I hope that helps you sleep tonight. Because you see, Sarah, my buddies have been sleeping for 40 years; and if they knew that a two-bit grifter like you would one day be making money off of their sacrifice, they might not be resting as easily as I hope they are tonight.

I'm a Christian, Sarah, and I don't say this lightly ... God damn you, Sarah Palin.

  1. If you share this on FB it will bring up a little writing from my blog. You can get rid of that by clicking on it and leaving your own comment, copy and paste something from article or just click and leave it blank.  It will still give title of post and link:)  Thanks for helping to keep history alive everyone!

  2. A wonderful letter!  I wish I had written it.  I was in the army n Vietnam also and totally share your sentiments.  Thank you, Chuck Provonchee

  3. For this brother 'Nam Vet, me, my Rage Gauge busted once again, as it did with the 'purple heart bandages' pointed directly at us In-Country Navy Vietnam Vets, and laughing about as to All who've been wounded in our Wars of Choice while sending soldiers into two more theaters, as the normally Respectable procession of hundreds of roaring motor cycles made it way once again while she's sitting as a rider smiling and waving to the crowds gathered like it was a parade for her royal grifter highness and the press is making it All about little sarah with no Shame!

  4. What will it take to finally get her relegated to a back shelf of has beens?? Maybe if Todd left her, but guess he is just as  power hungry as she is and  likes being along for this ride,

  5. Jim I was very angered by what SP did.  I still have a hard time with memorial day, not because I was a vet but because I have loved so many Nam Vets who served and died or came home so messed up from that war.  I was one of those who opposed that war but never did I oppose the men who fought it.  They served their Country as they were asked to do and then treated like crap when they came home.  I have always had a hard time forgiving my fellow Countrymen for they way they treated the men who came home from that war and how they are still treated.  Thank you for serving your Country Jim!

  6. Chuck thank you for posting and this letter says it all, that is why I felt the need to post it.  I think this Vet spoke the truth and the thoughts of many Nam Vets.  Thank you for serving your Country Chuck!

  7. Tellit I am pretty sure that the Palins are no longer together.  When you see them together now, it is for show...just like everything SP does.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Really?? Any where to read about this idea?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Many of the palinblogs have speculated for along time (at least since Christmas when it came out that Todd was having a thing with Shailey Tripp) that they are no longer together.  Personally I don't think they have been a "couple" for years.  If you notice pictures of them in the past few months...especially of late...neither of them wear their wedding rings....I think Palin and Piper live in AZ now (with Bristol close by of  course) and Willow and Trig are in Alaska with Todd or maybe Track and his new bride are now taking care of Trig.... If you check on my Best places to be on the right side of my page...you will find the sites that really keep up on Palin and have been exposing her for years....the media doesn't pay attention because she is ratings to them!  Lawrence is the only one that really calls it like it is about Sarah but then...no one touches the personal life of Sarah which really ticks me off...

  10. I am a disabled Vietnam veteran.  Palin is a circus.  A grifter, acarnival barker,a know-nothing and an attention-seeking money hungry moron.

  13. It sickens my heart to know she used my son's grave .,to tap dance on for profit.  My beautiful 20yr son died in Iraq, I will never forgive this woman for what she did Sunday, and to pimp her children out for money....She should be ashamed, ofcourse she is not, she is too damn stupid to even understand ...

  14. I trust this is the case cause you know more than I do, but think I saw him

seeing her and wondering why she gets so many passes.

  17. Who cares what Sarah Palin says? I'[m not a fan of her, but seriously - what is the souce of your paranoia? Some phoney-baloney mom's basement dweller - er - "Vietnam Vet" writes a letter and you leftist haters act like it's Holy Gospel.

How outraged are you that the Community Organizer recognized Memorial Day by playing golf for the 70th time while six more Americans came home in body bags from the pointless war in Afghanistan? Just wondering...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Okay, you want him to work like Bush did???! Bush spent the equivalent of 3 years - pushing close to HALF his time in office! - on vacation!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Blech! She looks like she's posing for porn.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually, what she IS is much worse than you imagined! She's a Dominionist. Look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If your Obami put a turd on a plate and called it meatloaf, you'd tell him how delicious it was and ask him for another serving. Can this clown do ANY wrong in your eyes? And why must you compare everything he does with the former president? I didn't say anything about Bush - you did.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wilberd, how many times are you on the right going to use and repeat the lie about the President playing golf.  You have been repeating the same lie since elections and intelligent people know the truth so give it a rest!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wilberd, why must you say anything about this President?  This article is NOT about the President and any clown would know that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Summer I am SO sorry for your loss and this woman will continue to do whatever she has to for money and that is the sad facts.  Until the media stops playing her games and people wake up to the truth, she will continue to rape America.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My point is that in your complete fear, hatred and paronoia for Sarah P, you use an unattributed letter from an unspecified source as a way to trash her for going on a bike ride and allegedly disrespecting those who died for this country.

Where is your criticism for the President who disrespected Memorial Day (as stated above) yesterday and as he has us entangled in THREE WARS?

Or does your hatred and intolerence toward all things that impose speed bumps toward the collectivist utopia you envision blind your judgement?

The only thing worse than leftists' politics is their smart ass snarky smugness.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh right, Mem. Only leftists are the smart ones. No one against marxist "progressive" collectivism could be considered to be intelligent. In terms of intelligence, I'd put my degrees and professoinal accomplishments up against whatever you've got any day.

And what "lie" would that be? I'm not a fan of Bush, but he quit playing golf while in office.

"You on the right". Right. Go ahead and define my politics for me. Is that the you learn on msnbc?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wilberd Wilberd Wilberd... Talking About Being Blinded By Hatred... The President Laid A Wreath At Arlington National Cemetery Yesterday And Also Gave A Speech... What Did You Do Yesterday?

As Far As Sarah Palin Goes, I Think Everyone Should Learn A Thing Or Two From Lush Rimbaugh, And Vote For Sarah In The Primaries... Make Her Overwhelmingly The Choice For The Republican Presidential Candidate, And Then Sit Back And Watch The Fun... (Of Course Voting Your Conscience Come Eletion Day).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mike - are you from Louisiana? If so, we met years ago...didn't know you were a Vietnam vet back then...Semper Fi!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If what you say is true, I suppose that doing that act with a wreath would be somewhat preferable over doing it with Moo-chelle, however I find the venue to be a bit inappropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wilberd every time there is an article about anything, you on the right start talking about Obama playing golf!  Never mind that the article has nothing to do with the President and by the way...I don't really give a hoot what kind of degrees you have. NOT impressed!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wilberd did your mom teach you to be a sick man or did you just come by that all on your  own?

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's called humor, Mem. The key to understanding it is having the ability to put aside your self absorption.

Speaking of humor, how about our fellow leftist traveler Anthony Weiner making the news today? You seem to be quite the Weiner fanboy, so I wonder if the picture of his tighty-whitied naughty bits was intended for you? Or was it another hack job perpetrated by BushCheneyHalliburonBlackwaterKochBrosFauxNews?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sounds like to me someone got up on the wrong side of life...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wilberd the only reason you are still commenting is because it is important that the future generation see what the teapublicans were like.  The hate they had and how their minds were always in the gutter with their morals.

    ReplyDelete
  35. By the way Wilberd, I normally ignore ignorance so consider yourself ignored!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Obama's golf game is only relevent because of how Bush was treated by the leftists when he played golf. It doesn't bother me if the President (any President) plays golf, but there should not be a double standard.

After looking through the 'movie' section of your blog, it appears that you're also a 'Truther'. That provides ample evidence of your paranoid delusions.

You may not be impressed by what I bring to the table, but I have degrees from well known universities, I've been to 49 states, 27 countries, I speak three languages, I passed the State Department's foreign service written exam, and I make over $200k/year. Just because someone is not a progressive collectivist, it doesn't make them stupid. Your blog is trite, anti-intellectual, and full of ad hominem attacks. It's dull, repetitive, and very ordinary.

  38. Wilberd, my question to you is, are you a combat veteran ?  If so, did you learn anything? If not, why do you disrespect a Vet by calling him a "phony baloney moms basement dweller"?  To me(FWIW), your many degrees don't make a pimple on a Vets ass.
    Respectfully,
    A Combat Viet Nam Vet

    ReplyDelete
  39. Then why don't you go play in your little money vault full of mirrors and stop trying to convince me about how great you are?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Word up. And you can get back to your sycophantic circle jerk with all 131 of your "followers". ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well said Mnamzloh and thank you for serving our/your Country!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Awe Wilberd I'm pretty sure that the only one around here that knows anything about circle jerks would be you.  Isn't that what little little men spend their time doing?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I, as the grandaughter of a WWII vet, the step-daughter of a Vietman vet, the sister of a Desert Storm I vet and the mother of an Iraq vet am APPALLED at the gaul this woman has at inviting herself  to something that has nothing to do with her and how she blatantly uses other people's painful memories for her photo op.  She has no idea of what sacrifice means and she disrepsects the memories of all vets who served and died for the freedoms she abuses.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It is appalling Sunnsyne1 and I was told by a good friend that she also posted pictures of the event on her sarahpac site with a donation button for her sarahpac.  I have not checked it out as I cannot stand to see her twitters, her FB or her website.  She has done a lot of things but this was the lowest thing yet.  I am very upset with the media as well that they have not called her out on this the way they should have.  It does not matter how a person feels about war.  Rather they agree or disagree with it.  The men and women who fight for our Country should ALWAYS have the respect of the American people.  They and their families sacrifice everything.

    ReplyDelete
  45. By the way Sunnsyne1 I wanted to say thank you to you and your family for your long line of service to this Country. ♥

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bush quit playing golf while in office? Really? Gee, I wonder why there are plenty of pictures of Bush playing golf in office readily available all over the internet?  Oh, I get it - he was just posing with golf gear kind of like SP posing as a rebel biker psuedo patriot - RIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT!
Memorial Day has long been regarded as a politically non-partisan holiday where only ELECTED representatives show up to pay their respects and candidates are NOT welcome to appear and make a mockery out of this sancrosanct time of remeberance!

    ReplyDelete
  47. You might want to scroll back up and read the words you typed dude - remembering that some people actually do read, comprehend and remember - DUH!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey Wilberd, You may not believe it - and that's o.k. - but, there are millions of us that do NOT fear SP, and we are NOT paranoid, nor do we "hate" her - more accurately we LOATHE liars, cheats, thieves and QUITTERS!  It's really simple - SP isn't worthy of running for any public office!  As a Vietnam Veteran - I'm embarrassed by any Vet that supports SP - and her publicty stunt over Memorial Day Weekend is nothing short of SHAMEFUL!

    ReplyDelete
  49. What's it say when a parent encourages a child to go to war gleefully - then, attempts to personally capitalize on her son's military service? A: SOCIOPATH!

    ReplyDelete
  50. The Republican Party handed out band-aids with little purple hearts printed on them during the '04 campaign to disparage John Kerry - just one shameful act in a long list of the Republican Party NOT supporting our military or veterans with anything more than lip-service!

    ReplyDelete
  51. SP is a SOCIOPATH!  The main problem with sociopaths is that they do NOT get it - they have no rational ability to honor basic good manners or etiquette!  You are 100% correct Summer!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was also insulted when SP showed up in a place where she doesn't belong.  I can see the rage of the right wingers if someone from the left would have pulled what this poor excuse for a politician pulled.

BTW, I am another Vietnam veteran, and I only use my basement when I exercise, including 120 push ups everyday.  Don't ever put down a person that served his country.  I doubt that you would have done the same.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, a Renassaince man!  I would be ashamed of bringing out my degrees and even worse, how much money I make.  I have known quite a few people that passed the Foreing Service exam, that have visited 27 countries and speak 6 languages.  I live in a suburb of Washington, DC in Maryland, and you know what?  Your accomplishments are common here.
The question is: HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING FOR OTHER HUMANS?  I have.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well said Mariosalazar and thank you as well for serving your Country!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Johnathan you are SO correct about all of the Bush photo's of him playing Golf and a few of them during times of real crisis in this Country.  By the way you are also correct about Memorial Day but Sarah Palin would crash the coming of Christ if she could make a few bucks and have a chance for another photo opt! (That goes out to all of the Christians who support this woman or more like False Prophet, For Profit)

    ReplyDelete
  56. As a combat Vietnam Veteran, I feel dirty to see people like SP take advantage of a solemn occasion to make money. How low does the right have to go to find a candidate that they have to court someone that is obviously only interested in making money from those that lack any critical thinking, including those that make $200 K a year, speak 3 languages and have visited 27 countries. Forgot that passed the Foreign Service exam.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thank you for your service to our country. Vietnam vets didn't get the support.  It wasn't because we didn't support YOU, it was because we didn't support the war.  Unfortunatly our service personal took the brunt of our anger. We have since learend.I was married to a Vietnam vet.  When he came home we didn't have the support the military offers today to returning vets and their families. We all just kind of "winged" it.
Some of us made it and a lot of us didn't.  Things have changed.War is not the answer.  We have been doing it over and over and over. There has to be a better way.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The President layed a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery (my Father & Mother's final resting place) on Monday, Memorial Day. I come from a military family, my Grand-father served in WWI, my father (& Uncle) in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and I am a disabled Vietnam Vet. I live in Florida, so I'm not typing this in my basement, but I am typing one-handed due to a broken arm sustained in a Harley accident two weeks ago. That said, I think Sarah Palin is a poser, and a publicity seeking wannabe that disrespected every Service Member with her actions on a very solemn day. You see the 1/2 gov. actions were only about her, Not those who served and died for our Country.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Trotting out your 'qualifications' in this manner reveals a desperate hunger  for recognition of your 'acheivements'.' Those of us who have attended elite universities know that in truth obtaining a degree is mainly about turning up and writing something/anything vaguely coherent. Any idiot can get on a plane and if you stick around anywhere for more than six months you'll inevitably pick up a language - rocket science it ain't - if you don't believe me ask any baby. Your post reveals someone who is wandering throuh this life lonely, unloved and tragically unappreciated. It's a shame but dissing a Vietnam war vet and lending support to the moronic Palin points up a shocking lack of  - errr - education. Remember the grand idiot Dubya Bush was levered into Yale. Say no more. Try reading Barbarossa by Alan Clark and learn something before you make a fool of yourself - yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Palin was invited check it out! Google it!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Travis she was invited by a former officer who did not bother to ask the rest of the group.  She was not asked to speak and she was not endorsed by the group.  That is why the guy who was in charge of the group went on TV and made it clear that she was NOT invited, asked to speak, nor endorsed by Rolling Thunder!  Check it out!  You might want to turn to something other then Fox to get the facts!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mario SP has not shame and does NOT understand what it is like to SERVE your Country in any form.  Sarah has never served anyone accept herself.  She claims she is a military mom and yet her son Track was given a choice at the time she was running for VP...go to jail or join the military and he was gone for a very short period, brought home and hidden out in their Alaska home....and you are spot on with your statement.

    ReplyDelete
  63. David thank you and your family for serving our Country.  I hope your arm heals quickly and stay off that bike for awhile:)  The whole thing is sad because all those people who donated to SarahPac that day could have donated to the Rolling Thunder Group instead or organizations that are making a difference in this Country.  Instead SP used this event to add to her bank account, pay for her "family vacation" and the new home she bought in AZ.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thank you for posting Cosmic!  I couldn't have said it better! (and I really mean that:)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mario well said.  I may not be as intelligent as
Wilberd or make the kind of money that Wilberd does but I was a single mom who
worked construction jobs to raise my children by myself until I had a brain hemorrhage in
1987.  It changed. my whole life but showed me that I had the ability to learn all over again, take the talents I had and use them for good.  It showed me that life is fragile and we all have our own battles.  It showed me how to take life one day, sometimes one minute at a time.  It showed me that being who I am is okay and today I have two amazing adult children who are doing amazing things with their lives and a wonderful granddaughter who is going to make a difference in this world so when I tell Wilberd that I am not impressed with his brains or money, I speak the truth.  I am impressed with the friends I have here on my blog, on FB and twitter who are compassionate and speak the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  66. So Wilberd, if Bush "quit playing golf while in office" then please explain this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/1955754/President-George-W-Bushs-golf-sacrifice-is-an-insult-to-all-Americans-say-veterans.html

And stop watching so much Sean Innanity and Faux Newz. It has made your brain turn to mush.

    ReplyDelete
  67. And your complete fear, hatred and paranoia for President Barak Obama is just plain disrespectful.

Does your hatred and intolerance towards all things that this President has done have a name? Yes, it does. And we know what that name is.

The only thing worse than the hateful, small-minded, intolerant and incoherent wingnuts like Wilberd is ... well, I can't think of anything worse. Does no service to his country, no service to his community, no service to his fellow man, and does nothing but disrespect the elected President of the United States, disrespect those that have served this country heroically , and blows his own horn about his many 'accomplishments' at every opportunity. Probably "blowing his own horn" right now with his Palin Pictures Collection.

    ReplyDelete
  68. No, sparky, that's not humor. That's just an insult. You just called the First Lady of the United States of America a cow.

Your mother must be so proud.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The only person Sarah Palin cares about is Sarah Palin. No surprise there!

    ReplyDelete
  70. That is how I felt about it Gmaine.  I supported those who fought in the war in Vietnam but I was so against the war.  I was very angry to see how our men were treated when they came home from Vietnam and I have many friends who changed.  Still to this day they struggle.  Some are fine and some didn't make it home.  They deserved respect then and they deserve it now.  Thank you and your husband for your sacrifice.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thank you davidgs for coming up with a link.  I'm in and out because we are trying to get our house ready to put on the market so I appreciate those who are posting and leaving facts.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Facts are the mortal enemy of those of Wilberd's ilk.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well said Johnathan and did I thank you for serving our Country.  It's nice to have some Vietnam Vets here to defend yourselves against such hatred and ignorance.  Thank you as well Davidgs!

    ReplyDelete
  74. yes he us welbred  not well bred notice  more like weakbred

    ReplyDelete
  75. The only way SP could have redeemed herself is to have had a donate button on her SarahPac site specifically to donate to Rolling Thunder, in lieu of SP. It would have been a simple, yet huge gesture.  It was so simple, and so obvious in fact that her oversight in not doing such a thing speaks volumes to what she was really there for.  Shame on her, as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  76. "Some phoney-baloney mom's basement dweller - er - "Vietnam Vet"..."

    *spit*

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sarah Palin's ethics are designed by M.C. Escher, and anyone sufficiently decerebrated enough to take anything she says or does as anything more than fodder for comedy writers needs to do the only honorable thing they possibly can:  burn their voter registration card and never, ever again approach a polling place.

    ReplyDelete
  78. "That's called humor, Mem"

No, that's called a pathetic attempt at humor by a floundering right-wing ideologue who has no way of venting his frustration at realizing that every single republican candidate for 2012 is polling behind both Larry Storch and the remaining Bay City Rollers.

Hulk Hogan was a more credible presidential candidate than anyone the Republicans are fielding.

I understand your frustration, and I sympathize.  It must be very difficult for you, being increasingly unable to avoid the simple reality that the hateful, bigoted, ugly, self-righteous, and sociopathic ideology that is the foundation of right-wing politics in this country - ESPECIALLY since Reagan - is finally dying off in favor of people who care more about other people than about material wealth, self-aggrandizement, or how many foreign-made US flag magnets they can fit on their SUV.

You have my pity - the next couple of decades are going to be very, very difficult for those of your  pathetic ilk.

    ReplyDelete
  79. @MemMcD:disqus - thanks for sharing this, it's very powerful and very moving and very spot-on.  Also getting a lot of play on Facebook, so congratulations on that.

As a general followup to my evisceration of the troll up yonder:  people who REALLY support our troops do so by demanding that our politicians never, EVER send them into combat for profit or other personal gain (say, to destroy the paperwork and remaining witnesses that could potentially convict Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Bush Sr., and many other neo-cons as war criminals for their relentless efforts to aid and arm the Hussein government, a fact that is not in dispute).

To so obscenely violate the trust and dignity of the men and women who volunteer - or for that matter who are conscripted - to fight for this country by fabricating excuses for war is by far the most odious, disgusting, and patently un-American thing we could ever do, and as far as I'm concerned everyone responsible for creating the situation in Iraq starting with Rumsfeld's push in the early 80's to have them de-listed as a terror-sponsoring nation so we could sell them biochemical weapon materiel should be forced to sit in an open pit until every single active, honorably discharged, and retired service person in this country has a chance to drop by and urinate on them...save for the one flaw in the plan, that it would be a tragic dishonor to perfectly good urine.

    ReplyDelete
  80. That letter by the unknown war hero was the most eloquent statement against Sarah Palin that I've ever read. All she has going for her is some kind of sassy "Good Housekeeping" hairdo. She is so shit for brains; even the wicked witch of the east (Ann Coulter) knows when to keep her yap shut.

    ReplyDelete
  81. You wonder why the world is in trouble.. especially the USA.. all the recentment, hate, anger, judgement, etc towards people.. . I am sure you did a great job serving our country.. NOW.. you are setting a bad example by your hate and recentment for Sarah.. Just like you John and anyone else reading this.. we  are all God's children.. including Sarah Palin....Let it go.. move on .. take your energy and use it to serve others.. today.. not the yesterday and beyond!
