Obama children's book already a hit

President Barack Obama is coming out with a post-election book: a picture book for children called “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters,” Random House announced today.

NEW YORK — President Obama is still a hit with the nation's book buyers.
Obama's tribute to 13 American ground breakers, "Of Thee I Sing," was in the top 25 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com as of Wednesday morning, less than two days after the children's book was announced and two months before its scheduled release. Random House Children's Books plans a first printing of 500,000 copies.  (Read Up-date about Fox News Article at the bottom of this article)

Another Article That Just Has To Be In My Scrapbook

For those of you who may not know. I started this scrapbook during the elections for my granddaughter. It is VERY important to me (especially now that we know states like Texas are free to re-write history) that she know what was happening during these times that our First Black President was elected. My intentions were to post something everyday and then find an interesting story to post with it. As it has turns out I can't even begin to post all the articles that are coming out from every source right now or write on everything that is happening. Much of the time I just feel overwhelmed by the way our Country has become so I try to choose articles that I really enjoy and that I feel makes a difference or says it all. I want my granddaughter and your grandchildren to know who fought for them and what really happened. I post what I know to be the truth. Today I have chosen this one from The Immoral Minority because it really does say it all right now.

A Message To The Obama Haters

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.

You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn’t get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn’t get mad when we didn’t catch Bin Laden.

You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city drown.

You didn’t get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.

You didn’t get mad when, using reconciliation; a trillion dollars of our tax dollars were redirected to insurance companies for Medicare Advantage which cost over 20 percent more for basically the same services that Medicare provides.

You didn’t get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark, and our debt hit the thirteen trillion dollar mark.

(The above is a copy/paste of a nice rant about some of the many errors of the Bush admin. This rant has been making the rounds for awhile now and I don’t know where it originated. What follows is my addition.)

Being on target to cut Bush’s huge deficit in half within four years? (source)

The DOW going from 6500 to over 11000 during his Presidency? (source)

Is it because he signed expanded gun rights into law while not making any moves towards gun control? (source)

Working to reform Wall Street Reform so we don’t experience another economic meltdown like what happened under Bush’s “leadership” in September 2008? (source)

Working to reduce loose nukes in order to decrease the chances of a nuclear attack on the US by terrorists? ( source )

Notice those last two are “works in progress.” These are things Obama is trying to do but the Republicans are doing everything they can stop him from being successful on these fronts (similar to how they pulled out every trick in the book to try to stop health care reform.) They don’t seem to care that stopping Obama from getting “political victories” (their biggest concern it seems) may lead to a terrorist nuking a major US city or another economic meltdown.

Think about that. “Country First”? Hardly. The Republican Party of today seems to exist only to further it’s own existence. They will stop at nothing to defeat Obama politically. They don’t care how many lies they have to tell or what the long term consequences are for average Americans.

It’s because of this that I think it’s of very much importance for the future of the United States that the “Republican Tea Party” be defeated this November. Do your part. Make sure you are registered to vote and get to the polls to vote against all Republican Tea Party candidates.

Sarah Palin Losing Ground With "Real Women"

I have long questioned how anyone can call themselves a "Christian" and support or turn a blind eye to the hate, violence and racism of Sarah from Alaska. I have especially been baffled by the women who support her. Most women that I know have a maternal instinct and would never use or throw their own children under the bus for any reason. Most women cry when they see an animal in pain or dying. Not Sarah! Sarah proudly announces that "Real Women" shoot moose! (As seen on the bag she carries) Sarah also states that they hunt for "sport" as well. I don't know any women like that but maybe I just don't feel the need to know any women like that.

I also don't feel the need to "know" any "Christians" who would support, condone or turn a blind eye to the invoking of violence, hate and racism. That is not the kind of world I want my granddaughter to be left with. I am still waiting for the "Real Christians" to stand up and say not in our Country! I'm still waiting for the "Real Christians" to stand up and say we will not support a Known Liar who uses God and is a False Profit, For Profit. I'm still waiting for the "Real Americans" to stand up and say you will not take us backwards, you will not cause division in our Country so that you can get rich on our fears and anger....still waiting...but maybe someone is standing up and maybe Alaskans are ready to tell the rest of us what they know?~Mem

For some reason, Sarah Palin and her acolytes, or as she likes to call them, the “mama grizzlies,” want us to believe that politically conservative mothers speak for all mothers and that they have a corner on the political motherhood market.

Sure, I’m glad that women, especially mothers, of all political persuasions are finding and exercising their political voices, especially the ones who realize they can do it without demonizing the opposition. That’s why I’m so excited that over 50 amazing mothers of various political stripes agreed to be featured in my Mothers of Intention book that will be coming out late this fall thanks to the amazing people (especially Lucy Chambers!) at Bright Sky Press. In addition to great essays, the book explores the political revolution women and mothers are building online and through social media.

So I have to take exception to Palin trying to horn in on the political mom territory by implying through her rhetoric and advertising that her right-wing supporters are the ones who created this. They didn’t. We were out here shaking things up when she was still visiting the Beehive Beauty Shop to have her hair done in her pre-governor days.

Younger Military Families Closing Ranks Around Obama

QUANTICO, Va. -- One of the largest U.S. marine bases in the world is located in Quantico, a tidy town with scant election fanfare. Everyone who lives here just assumes Republicans have a lock on the military vote. And so when Obama signs began to appear, tongues began to wag.

"At first I was worried about how my neighbors would view it," said former marine corporal Dawn Jennings, 31, who bravely put an Obama sign in the center of her front yard. Jennings told OffTheBus that Quantico is the "kind of place where they'll ask you to remove an Obama bumper sticker from your car."

Barack Obama is promising to make college affordable for all Americans, and this appeals to Jennings. "I can't imagine telling my two kids, "No college for you, because I voted for McCain." She emailed all of her military friends, encouraging them to register two new voters. "It's time to take a stand," said the marine vet. "I want us to be like Michigan -- I'd love to see John McCain quit campaigning in Virginia, too."

Jennings isn't the only Obama supporter in Quantico -- not by a long shot -- and this should raise a red flag for the McCain camp. In hotly contested states with large military populations, these voters can make an impact because they turn out to vote in higher percentages (79/64) than the general public, according to a Rand study.

Military Voter Surveys Can Be Misleading

The Military Times recently released its annual survey of subscribers, which shows McCain-Palin enjoying a commanding lead over Obama-Biden (68/23 percent). But this is not a random sample, by any stretch of the imagination. Military Times subscribers are significantly older than the active military population. Nearly half of those surveyed are retirees, and minorities are under-represented.

"Everyone I talk to wants change but on base you can't say certain things. At a bar or a party, everyone tells me they're voting for Obama," said Thomas Singleton, 27, a former military telecommunications specialist who was speaking to OffTheBus outside the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Perched on a hill in Quantico, the museum's stunning roof line can be seen for miles. Its design -- a 200-foot tilted mast atop a huge glass atrium -- was inspired by the famous Iwo Jima flag raising of World War II.

"My military friends are tired of being lied to," said Singleton. "They're told to deploy for six months, but it ends up being a year. And when they come home, they can't find a job. One of my friends is staying in the Army only because he can't find a civilian job."

The genuine patriotism these young people feel is complicated by events in Iraq, and grumblings about military miscalculations. "I was proud to go to Iraq, but when I got there all we did for weeks was play cards. We were unprepared. We had the wrong supplies," said Skye Spann, 27, a former medical specialist. "It didn't seem like we had a clear mission."

Deployed Troops Give Four Times More Money To Obama

People in all branches of the service are getting tired of repeated deployments. "I think more of them will vote for Obama than McCain," said Jennings. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain.

"Any assumption that the military vote is overwhelmingly in favor of the Republican Party -- based on demographics alone -- is suspect, at the very least," said Donald S. Inbody, a retired Navy Captain who is on the political science faculty at Texas State University. Inbody also is a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas in Austin, where he is researching the political attitudes and behavior of the American military enlisted person.

For years, the Republicans have enjoyed a reputation for taking care of the troops. But now, at all levels of the military, there's a general dissatisfaction with the lousy leadership in Washington. Inbody told OffTheBus, "We know from several studies that the officer corps, especially senior officers, identify strongly with the Republican Party. But it is more likely that junior officers and enlisted personnel more nearly mirror the general American population when it comes to party identification and voting behavior."

This could result in a 1.2 to 1 advantage for Obama in military communities, according to Inbody, especially if the campaign "isn't tone deaf" to the inroads that are possible.
