NEW YORK — President Obama is still a hit with the nation's book buyers.
Obama's tribute to 13 American ground breakers, "Of Thee I Sing," was in the top 25 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com as of Wednesday morning, less than two days after the children's book was announced and two months before its scheduled release. Random House Children's Books plans a first printing of 500,000 copies. (Read Up-date about Fox News Article at the bottom of this article)
Both of Obama's previous works, the memoir "Dreams From My Father" and the policy book "The Audacity of Hope," are million sellers.
Obama, who finished "Of Thee I Sing" before his administration began, is the rare president to have a book come out while still in office. He will be an even rarer one if "Of Thee I Sing" is a best seller. Presidents from Ulysses S. Grant to John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton have written popular books, but none came out while they were in the White House. Clinton's policy book, "Between Hope and History," was released near the end of his first term and sold a fraction of the memoir "My Life," published three years after his second term.
At a press briefing Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that neither Obama nor his daughters, Malia or Sasha, who helped inspire "Of Thee I Sing" and appear on the illustrated, will be involved in marketing the book.
Asked about how the White House urges the media to respect the girls' privacy, but then features them on the book jacket, Gibbs said, "Our encouragement is to keep their private lives private. "If you read the book, it is, I think the president would tell you, an inspirational book about the country they live in and about their ability and the ability for children throughout this country to dream, as the president talked about yesterday (during a back-to-school address to students), to dream big and accomplish whatever they want to," Gibbs said.
Note From Mem: All proceeds from “Of Thee I Sing” will be donated to a scholarship fund for the children of fallen and disabled soldiers, the publishers said. The book will have a 500,000-copy first printing, will be published by Random House’s Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers imprint.
I spent over a year trying to get Sarah Palin to donate the proceeds of her book Going Rogue (which she did not write) to military families but it is not her responsibility. She has stated many times how much she supports the military and their families but obviously only with her thoughts!
Any records of John McCain donating to Military families? I don't think so!
I ask you, who is the Real American here?-Mem

Fox turns Obama kid book into Anti-American War Epic!
When news aggregation goes wrong: Fox News republished a USA Today article called "Obama Shares Dreams for His Kids in Book About 13 Americans." Fox News' headline? "Obama Praises Indian Chief Who Killed U.S. General."
The chief in question is Sitting Bull, whom Obama calls "a Sioux medicine man who healed broken hearts and broken promises" in his book. Here's a comparison between USA Today's article and Fox News' article, the latter of which is exactly the same as the former, but with a different headline and one paragraph in bold:
In small print at bottom it says read full story in USA today!
C'mon, guys, if you're going to write a divisive, overblown headline, at least insert a self-referential joke and a hasty photoshop job with yellow arrows, or something.*Obama is donating all of his royalties from the book to a scholarship fund for children of disabled and fallen American soldiers.
Basically, this picture book is his jihad. You heard it here first: The natives are restless, and they are teaming up with our Taliban Muslim Illegally Elected President. [Fox Nation, USA Today via onebadclam]
