Sarah and Bristol Palin apply for trademarks
Feb. 4, 2011

Sarah Palin and her daughter, Bristol, are taking steps to protect their brand. (My question is will they file a trademark for Corporate Whores?  False Prophets For Profit? Tundra Turds? Mama Sows?-Mem) See Update: Feb. 5, 2011

The possible GOP presidential candidate and her Dancing with the Stars child have filed applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark "Sarah Palin" and "Bristol Palin," according to AOL's Politics Daily.

The blurring of celebrity and politics has added to the bank accounts of mother and daughter. (As they
planned.  In my neck of the woods it's called being a Snake Oil Salesman!-Mem)

Sarah Palin, fresh off her 2008 vice presidential bid, inked a deal reportedly worth $7 million to write her first book, Going Rogue. (Correction- Had someone write her first book-Mem) Her second book, America by the Heart, also spent time on best-seller lists. (Was a real flop and was reported by sources that most of the books were bought by Palin herself-Mem)

Update: Feb. 5, 2011-Sarah Palin tries to trademark her name, forgets to sign the paperwork…with her name.

Bad news if you were thinking of hitching a ride on Brand Palin. The former Alaska governor and Fox News contributor is way ahead of you. According to Suzi Parker at Politics DailySarah Palin has filed paperwork with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark both “Sarah Palin®” and “Bristol Palin®.”

Parker reports the patent office applications were filed back on November 5, just after the mid-term elections. The application for Bristol Palin was filed earlier, in September, just before the Palin daughter began her run for glory on Dancing with the Stars. Why Sarah Palin®? Well, bigtime celebrities sometimes trademark their names to protect the brand, but Parker points out Palin’s effort has a few glitches:
For Sarah Palin’s application, there are two classes of commercial service for which her name would be a registered trademark. One is for “information about political elections” and “providing a website featuring information about political issues.” The second is for “educational and entertainment services … providing motivational speaking services in the field of politics, culture, business and values.”
The “Bristol Palin” application is for “educational and entertainment services, namely, providing motivational speaking services in the field of life choices.”

Another potential problem? Palin didn’t sign the paperwork. So for now, you can still just type Sarah Palin. No “®” needed–yet.
