Another Article That Just Has To Be In My Scrapbook

For those of you who may not know. I started this scrapbook during the elections for my granddaughter. It is VERY important to me (especially now that we know states like Texas are free to re-write history) that she know what was happening during these times that our First Black President was elected. My intentions were to post something everyday and then find an interesting story to post with it. As it has turns out I can't even begin to post all the articles that are coming out from every source right now or write on everything that is happening. Much of the time I just feel overwhelmed by the way our Country has become so I try to choose articles that I really enjoy and that I feel makes a difference or says it all. I want my granddaughter and your grandchildren to know who fought for them and what really happened. I post what I know to be the truth. Today I have chosen this one from The Immoral Minority because it really does say it all right now.

Franken: 'If Republicans Take Over Congress, They'll Implement A Truly Dangerous Agenda'

Las Vegas -- Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) last night told progressive activists and bloggers that they have a responsibility to stay engaged during the crucial midterm elections -- lest they allow Republicans to not just roll back the Obama administration's real gains, but enact an agenda he called "dangerous." Franken then acknowledged that it's a tough election year but, especially in Sen. Harry Reid's home state, Reid (D-NV) shouldn't be underestimated. Franken credited conservatives for being motivated to reverse the gains progressives have made over the past five years, pointing out that corporations have pledged $200 million during this election cycle and "one oilman, one guy, gave Karl Rove $1 million for attack ads." He warned participants that, in addition to all of that, the Citizens United decision -- the very mention of which earned boos from the crowd -- means that "corporations now spend unlimited amounts of money... can now spend unlimited sums of money directly attacking candidates who try to stand up to them." He pointed out that the Senate would be different without its current leadership and many of its progressive darlings -- and that the House would be different with Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) as speaker, a mention that also earned boos from the crowd. Franken acknowledged the frustration and disappointment of the crowd with the pace of change in the Senate, pointing out that he supported the public option, immigration reform and public financing of elections, too. The Party Of No, Is Really The Party Of Nothing....

During an episode titled "The Pitch," George Costanza famously described Seinfeld as "a show about nothing." And so it is now with the Republican Party. As the Washington Post related, in the run-up to the November midterms Republican leaders are fiercely debating what - if anything - to stand for. By all indications, the Party of No by this fall may well be the Party of Nothing.

For his part, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) wants to go the something route by mimicking the 1994 Contract with America with a new "Commitment to America" for the fall campaign. But to date, his efforts have hardly been a resounding success.

His first attempt at rebranding the Republican Party in 2008 produced "The Change You Deserve," which sadly was already the slogan for the anti-depressant, Effexor. His lieutenant Eric Cantor then rolled out - and quickly abandoned - the National Council for a New America. Its successor, a request for online input called "America Speaking Out" has produced more guffaws than ideas. Worse still, Boehner to much laughter this week followed up his wildly unpopular call for a repeal of the new health care reform law with the same line on Wall Street reform and a proposed moratorium on new regulations of any kind. And it's all complicated further by a Tea Party base which threatens to make Rand Paul and Sharron Angle the new faces of the GOP.

But by riding a wave of voter anger over the sluggish economy, Republicans nevertheless stand to make major gains in the House and Senate. Which is why, the Post asks: read more at Crooks And Liars
