I have something in common with Republican vice presidential nominee Congressman Paul Ryan: We were both friends with the late Congressman Jack Kemp. Today, some Republicans are comparing Paul Ryan to Kemp. That is a slur on Kemp.

As a recent, extensive portrait of Ryan in the New York Times notes, such comparisons are far from accurate:

Over the years, Mr. Ryan’s emphasis shifted. Mr. Kemp was not nearly as concerned with cutting government programs as Mr. Ryan is today. They agreed on [low] taxes, but their views on spending and the role of government were different.

I have to say that nights like tonight give me some hope that the media is listening. (At least MSNBC) I had tweeted them today that I was really tired of people not making a big deal out of this Palin run or not run and that I am disappointed that no one calls her out on this and other things. (Now, I'm delusional enough to think that Lawrence did this story just for me:)  Lawrence spent quite a bit of time on this tonight and also made me think about other reasons for the whole bus tour, movie, etc. Of course we all know that she needs the attention but I am convinced that the Koch Brothers are also behind this. Paying Palin to invoke the same anger, hate and racism that she did during 2008. Palin gets the attention she craves as well as paid for doing what she likes best, angering the mob!  Lawrence's take on Palin is quite good and I hope that he is spot on! Knowing Palin, she would run now just to spite Lawrence and a HUGE part of me is afraid she will run but I hope Lawrence is right in his prediction about this!  -Mem  (video)
